What are Outdoor Shades?
Outdoor Shades by PowerShades are motorized or automated shading and screening systems designed for outdoor spaces (like patios, pergolas, verandas, balconies, or outdoor dining areas) that help with climate control, sun protection, privacy, insect protection, and extending usability of outdoor spaces.
Key Features
- Motorized and Automated Operation: The shades are powered, often with AC motors, and can integrate automation, timers, sensors (e.g. for sun, wind)
- Outdoor-Specific Fabrics: Fabrics are weather-resistant, block UV rays, protect furniture, and help reduce heat. Options for different opacities (how much light passes through) and different material styles.
- Side Guide Systems: These help stabilize the shade fabric and enhance protection (e.g. wind, bugs). Two main designs are: 1. Wire Guide – tensioned wires at the sides to keep the fabric in place. 2. ZipperTrack / Zipscreen – a track down each side (with a zipper mechanism) that locks the fabric into side channels to fully enclose the shade fabric edge. More secure and offers better sealing.
- Multiple Configurations: Shades can come as open roll (roller exposed) or with an enclosed box or header to protect the roller & fabric when retracted.
- Weather Tough: Designed to handle outdoor elements—sun, UV, rain, wind, insects. Some models have heavier duty hardware for larger spans and taller drops.
- Smart Control / Integration: You can control them via apps, set schedules, possibly integrate with smart home or automation systems. Some use RF or other smart protocols.
Specifications & Capabilities
- Size: Large widths (up to \~20 ft) and drops (up to \~19 ft) depending on model.
- Hardware / Tube Sizes: Different models use varying sizes of aluminum tubes; robust side-channel hardware or guides for stability.
- Colors & Finishes: The hardware (side guides, boxes, headers) comes in multiple color/finish options (e.g. blacks, metallics, etc).
